Dr. Carl Van Waes
Dr Carl Van Waes is a recognised plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgeon and a member of the Royal Belgian Society for Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery. He is also a Fellow of the Collegium Chirurgicum Plasticum (FCCP).
He obtained his degree as General Practitioner in 2004 from KU Leuven. Subsequently, he followed a three-year training in general surgery under the supervision of Professor P. Broos (KU Leuven). This was followed by a specialised training at the internationally renowned department of plastic surgery at Ghent University Hospital.
Besides training in a wide range of general plastic procedures, Dr Van Waes also received highly specialised training in breast reconstruction (DIEAP flap) and transgender surgery. He worked in close collaboration with Professor S. Monstrey, Professor P. Blondeel and Professor K. Van Landuyt.
He passed the nationally organised CCP examination with high distinction in June 2013.
Thereafter, he followed further fellowship programmes that gave him added expertise in the field of facial aesthetics. In Ankara (Sühan Ayhan, MD, PhD) and San Francisco (Bryant A. Toth, MD), he picked up the latest techniques in the field. At the beginning of 2014, he joined the internationally experienced team ‘See and Smile’ led by Dr P. Tonnard and Professor K. Van Landuyt and accompanied the team to Myanmar to operate on schisis patients (cleft lip and palate).
He currently works as a staff member at AZ Jan Palfijn in Ghent and also works closely together with Professor S. Monstrey at Ghent University Hospital in the area of male-to-female transgender surgery. He has been part of the team at Cosmipolis Clinic in Bruges since early 2014.
Transparency and clear communication in a pleasant, relaxed setting is a priority for Dr Van Waes. In this way, a proper treatment strategy can be decided upon after a detailed discussion of your specific wishes and desires.
